Nine years before Busty's mysterious radiating pattern was found, this more conventional
crop circle (above) arrived. This one also was strikingly different to the trained eye. The
single simple circle appeared near Winchester, the ancient capital of England, in 1986. I
wrote detailed reports about it which were referred to in Circular Evidence, and one of my
technical papers appeared in The Journal of Meteorology (Vol. 12, Number 116, Feb. 1987).
These three crop circles, along with a handful of others, could be the reason why western
Governments have spent thousands of pounds creating smoke screens about the crop circle
subject and hoaxers may have been unwitting accomplices in diverting the subject from the
public eye.
These last two circles (above and below), both have spiral arms, however they have opposite
rotations; one flowing inward to the center, and the other flowing outward to the rim. Their
particular fingerprint sets them aside from other crop circles. In the crop circle below, found in
Westbury, Wiltshire, 1987, the three of us present heard a thud-like sound similar to a sonic
boom. The sound seemed to come from the center of the circle, yet when each of us looked
towards the center, we saw nothing. It was only when photographer/researcher Busty Taylor
developed his 35mm film that the white disc was seen in the center, exactly where the sound
seemed to originate.

phenomenon of the last three weeks, but to present associated data that might be relevant to
future research.
I am working on a major article about the real crop circles which will be published soon. This short

since January 15, 2010 asking me about the unusual radar returns seen on the Bureaus
national weather system.

My website is receiving many thousands of visitors who are asking for an explanation for these
patterns. Several technicians working with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology have sent me
a range of possible explanations but frankly they don't seem to answer all the cases seen the
last 8 days including the radial black lines centered upon a red star feature positioned over the
NW quadrant of your country (see website).
You will see the various questions, explanations and theories being posed. There has been
quite powerful evidence received here of weather modification attempts, can you categorically
respond to this please? Is the Australian Government involved with the HAARP project based
in Alaska?
As an amateur Meteorologist of 40 years myself and being aware of incomplete radar returns
and low rain settings on the software concerned, some of the effects seen on your national
radar system recently do not seem to fit these explanations. I would greatly appreciate your
response or please convey this inquiry to the appropriate office.

Pyrocumulus and fire detection using radar
Weather Radar will reflect from ash and other debris carried aloft by a fire, it also detects
other natural phenomena such as insect swarms and flocks of birds if they are present in the
radar beam.
The radar image below would also include raindrops that form in the pyrocumulus cloud above
the fires. These clouds develop into thunderstorms generating lightening that causes
additional fires and strong micro busts (downdrafts) that make the fire more behaviour even
more erratic.
Weather Radar will reflect from ash and other debris carried aloft by a fire, it also detects
other natural phenomena such as insect swarms and flocks of birds if they are present in the
radar beam.
The radar image below would also include raindrops that form in the pyrocumulus cloud above
the fires. These clouds develop into thunderstorms generating lightening that causes
additional fires and strong micro busts (downdrafts) that make the fire more behaviour even
more erratic.
Donut Rings around radar
To achieve a display range to 512km the radar is required to sweep three times at a slightly
lower elevation at each step to accommodate for the curvature of the earth. This ensures the
beam is approximately the same height above the surface out to a distance of 512km. This
adjustment is termed range normalisation. If the radar receiver setting is too sensitive at one of
the elevation settings a donut pattern results from background noise from the returned signal.
The problem is rectified by a technician reducing the sensitivity for the affected elevation
setting.

The line echo radiating toward the south east from the Melbourne Airport radar toward Bass
Straight results from interference from another radio source that is unknown. The other source
could possibly be microwave communication or a reflection from a city building. The radar

This type of interference pattern is caused by a nearby radar transmitting on the same
frequency. In the Melbourne case below a weather radar operating at the Bureau’s Training
Centre was used as a back up resulting in the images appearing below for a short-time.
