The passing of Pete Seeger
Received today from my friend Peter Sorensen
January 30, 2014
E-mail today from Pete Sorensen:

Where have All the Flowers Gone?  The passing of Pete Seeger

The greatest of my heroes that I actually knew, folksinger Pete was 94.

My mother used to take me to the banjo player’s small “hootnannys” when I was a toddler, and
as I grew older we followed him to Carnegie Hall where one time he had us on stage singing
along with a group of about 30 of his friends.

My favorite memory tho was after a concert when he let me play his 12 string guitar.  I had a
nice 12 string of my own, so I was utterly astonished when I played his and discovered how
easily the strings fretted (how little effort they took to press down when making a chord).

Here’s a picture of him laughing while holding that guitar.
A few years ago I heard him interviewed on the BBC and I wrote to say how much I had enjoyed
that.  To my delight he replied!  Here’s a scan of that letter and a photo of him and his
Japanese wife Toshi that he sent me.

Bless you, Pete, and thank you for leaving this world a better place for having sung in it!

~~Peter
