WikiLeaks plans 'major' announcement in Europe

LONDON – The WikiLeaks website appears close to releasing what the Pentagon fears is the largest
cache of secret U.S. documents in history — hundreds of thousands of intelligence reports compiled after
the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
In a message posted to its Twitter page on Thursday, the organization said there was a "major WikiLeaks
press conference in Europe coming up." WikiLeaks has not commented publicly on the imminent
announcement.
Their disclosure would be the most massive leak of secret documents in U.S. history, and defense officials
are racing to contain the damage.
A team of more than a hundred analysts from across the U.S. military, lead by the Defense Intelligence
Agency, has been combing through the Iraq documents they think will be released.
Called the Information Review Task Force, its analysts have pored over the documents and used word
searches to try to pull out names and other issues that would be particularly sensitive, officials have said.
The task force has informed the U.S. Central Command of some of the names of Iraqis and allies and of
other information they believe might be released that could present a danger, officials have said, noting
that — unlike the WikiLeaks previous disclosure of some 77,000 documents from Afghanistan — in this
case they had advance notice that names may be exposed.
That previous leak, back in July, outraged the U.S. military, which accused WikiLeaks of irresponsibility.

There were 5,135 inventions that were under secrecy orders at the end of Fiscal Year 2010, the U.S.
Patent and Trademark Office told Secrecy News last week. It's a 1% rise over the year before, and the
highest total in more than a decade.
Under the Invention Secrecy Act of 1951, patent applications on new inventions can be subject to secrecy
orders restricting their publication if government agencies believe that disclosure would be "detrimental to
the national security."
The current list of technology areas that is used to screen patent applications for possible restriction
under the Invention Secrecy Act is not publicly available and has been denied under the Freedom of
Information Act. (An appeal is pending.) But a previous list dated 1971 and obtained by researcher
Michael Ravnitzky is available here (pdf).
Most of the listed technology areas are closely related to military applications. But some of them range
more widely.
Thus, the 1971 list indicates that patents for solar photovoltaic generators were subject to review and
possible restriction if the photovoltaics were more than 20% efficient. Energy conversion systems were
likewise subject to review and possible restriction if they offered conversion efficiencies "in excess of 70-
80%."
One may fairly ask if disclosure of such technologies could really have been "detrimental to the national
security," or whether the opposite would be closer to the truth. One may further ask what comparable
advances in technology may be subject to restriction and non-disclosure today. But no answers are
forthcoming, and the invention secrecy system persists with no discernible external review.

The United States Government continues its long and painful pass before the hall of mirrors and more
unpleasant truths surface.
A new movie 'Fair Game' is about to hit the silver screen about the ousting of covert CIA spy Valerie
Plame. It will reveal powerful facts that show Scooter Libby and Vice President Dick Cheney are
national traitors - that was what Joe Wilson, a US Ambassador called them tonight on CNN when
interviewed by Wolf Blitzer. History will judge President W. Bush he said, sat along side Valerie Plame.
Plame said that she doubted it would be as the President would like.
The irresponsibility is endless.

allegations "extremely serious" and said people would be wanting to hear "what the answer is". He
went on to say "Its shocking, we can bemoan how these leaks occurred but I think the nature of the
allegations made are extraordinarily serious. They are distressing to read about," he told BBC
television.

| I am all for The Truth. To be proud of a nation who take their treasured young to war we must be assured we have the true reasons for that terrible decision. That nation must be seen to have taken the high ground and to be seen to be honorable in its final act. Any smell of dishonesty or hidden agendas will ultimately come home to undermine their position. If that nation is shown to have lied to its young fighting men and woman and to its people it has much more than an image problem but a moral one with profound implications. It is irresponsible of those who know truths such as those leaked by WikiLeaks not to reveal them. I cant imagine a President or head of state signing onto the kinds of war crimes and lies today's revelations show or is it that each in turn are forced to do so because of the consequences on some hidden agenda? WHO ARE these people deep within the US government who decide to lie and cover up such profound truths surrounding these agendas? This national disgrace goes well beyond a Hollywood style rescue of Jessica Lynch (A staged event) or the shooting of Pat Tillman by the enemy (another lie), or the outing of one of their own secret CIA spies, Valerie Plame, this is about the honor of the nation itself we are talking about here. Bradley Manning who allegedly made some of today's truths known via WikiLeaks is in prison. This is a crime in of itself. Whistle blowers like him are the true hero's in this mess.
