Alone Again: Naturally?
Professor Paul Davies' new book The Eerie Silence: Are we alone in the
universe? was published on 5 March and is highly recommended for anyone
interested in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) and 'UFOs'. I
blogged about Davies's views on UFOs earlier this year and the book has now
been reviewed by Jon Ronson in The Guardian and by Lord Martin Rees in
The Times.
Particularly worth reading are Davies's comments on UFOs and government
cover-ups (discussed in Chapter 1). As a student at Royal Holloway during the
1970s Davies was a believer in UFOs as craft visiting Earth from other worlds,
and was convinced by the catalogues of ground traces and radar trackings
used by UFOlogists as proof that structured craft from elsewhere are regularly
visiting Earth.
But his mature views after 40 years as a SETI scientist are worth contrasting
with the beliefs of Stan Friedman, Tim Good and the 'disclosure movement'. As
chair of the SETI Post-Detection Task Group, it would be Davies who would be
the first to announce to the world that contact has been made with an
extraterrestrial civilisation, as they would be first to receive it. And he would do
that via the scientific community, making any notion that governments would or
could successfully conceal such amazing news redundant.
In his review of the book Jon Ronson mentions that at the recent Royal Society
conference to mark the 50th anniversay of SETI, a man in dark glasses stood
up during the Q&A session with Davies to announce: "Why does SETI ignore
what's right in front of us? The 6,000 abductions! The 10,000 cattle
mutilations!" His succinct answer was: "To expect alien technology to be just a
few decades ahead of ours is too incredible to be taken seriously." To Davies,
unpicking the mysteries of the universe utilising fundamental physics and
astrobiology leads to a far more satisfying explanation of the wonders of
nature, compared to which the UFO abduction industry is merely a updated
medieval demonology.
On the subject of UFOs, Davies appears to have reached the same conclusion
as others such as Jenny Randles, Paul Devereux and myself namely that,
despite scepticism borne of past experience in investigating UFO incidents:
"it would not surprise me if a small fraction of cases involve new or
little-understood atmospheric or psychological phenomena. But
whatever lies behind that stubborn residue of hard-to-explain cases, I
see no reason to attribute them to the activities of alien beings
visiting our planet in flying saucers. UFOs, like ghost stories, are fun
to read, but cannot be taken seriously as evidence for extraterrestrial
beings. They do serve a useful purpose, however, by providing a window on
how the human mind imagines aliens and alien technology. What is striking
about the accounts is not their weird and otherworldly character, but their
distinctly mundane and human-like quality. We would surely expect of
extraterrestrials something more extraordinary than humanoid beings piloting
the equivalent of souped-up Stealth bombers" (pg 22 of The Eerie Silence).
This is a viewpoint which is entirely sympathetic to my own position after 20
years on the flying saucer beat. As I was quoted by The Times: on 18 February
"I think either aliens are watching our TV and adapting their aircraft
accordingly, or people are seeing these things in popular culture and adapting
them in their own imagination."

involved in that way. The key, as always, is getting them past their almost
inevitable first reaction of, "Are you serious??? You think you've proven alien
life existed on Earth 900 years ago??? You can't be serious, can you???"
I can and I am, and I'll soon be taking my show on the road to secure the few
million dollars we need to test and film. It's out there, somewhere, I know it

drops 180 feet away

Two New Hampshire teenagers sitting in a parked car were approached by a
black-colored UFO in Laconia on March 20, 2010, lifted into the air and then
dropped back onto pavement 180 feet away, according to testimony from the
Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
MUFON New England State Director Steve Firmani confirmed his investigation
of the case today by telephone and said witness interviews had been
completed.
The 18-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy both offer testimony about their
encounter.
The two used the girl's mother's car and went to a Laconia destination that
has not been released.
"We were just sitting there and I looked up at the moon," the female witness
stated. "I saw this weird black-shaped object. And then, I said to my boyfriend,
'What was that?'”
Both accounts describe the same events. They saw an object coming toward
them from the sky and began to panic. When they attempted to drive

as the consequences could be devastating, British scientist Stephen Hawking
warned Sunday.
"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in
America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," said the
astrophysicist in a new television series, according to British media reports.
The programmes depict an imagined universe featuring alien life forms in huge
spaceships on the hunt for resources after draining their own planet dry.
"Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer
and colonise whatever planets they can reach," warned Hawking.
The doomsday scenario is suggested in the series "Into the Universe with
Stephen Hawking" on the Discovery Channel, which began airing in the United
States on Sunday.
On the probability of alien life existing, he says: "To my mathematical brain, the
numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational.
"The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like."
Glowing squid-like creatures, herds of herbivores that can hang onto a cliff
face and bright yellow predators that kill their prey with stinging tails are among
the creatures that stalk the scientist's fantastical cosmos.

It is unfortunate that Stephen Hawking has added his voice to a growing chorus
of xenophobia and fear regarding what he terms "Aliens."
Secondly, as a scientist, he should know better: Any interstellar civilization
would possess such technologies that the meager resources of Earth would be
unneeded. If you can travel faster than the speed of light, you can manifest
what is needed. Period. Moreover, IF they were hostile- since ETs are already
visiting Earth (see www.DisclosureProject.org)- this would have been made
crystal clear when we detonated the first atomic weapon in 1945. To date, no
place on Earth has been invaded or attacked or colonized.
Hawking should refrain from stirring the war-mongering fear pot that attends all
things "alien." And one might ask: Why would he make such statements, unless
he is carrying water for the military- industrial-financial complex which profiteers
off of the wars that fear breeds?

It is unfortunate that Stephen Hawking has added his voice to a growing chorus
of xenophobia and fear regarding what he terms "Aliens."
Secondly, as a scientist, he should know better: Any interstellar civilization
would possess such technologies that the meager resources of Earth would be
unneeded. If you can travel faster than the speed of light, you can manifest
what is needed. Period. Moreover, IF they were hostile- since ETs are already
visiting Earth (see www.DisclosureProject.org)- this would have been made
crystal clear when we detonated the first atomic weapon in 1945. To date, no
place on Earth has been invaded or attacked or colonized.
Hawking should refrain from stirring the war-mongering fear pot that attends all
things "alien." And one might ask: Why would he make such statements, unless
he is carrying water for the military- industrial-financial complex which profiteers
off of the wars that fear breeds?

Henry W. McElroy, former representative to the New Hampshire House of
Representatives has released a video statement revealing he saw a secret brief to
President Eisenhower concerning extraterrestrial life. He served on various
committees during his time in the New Hampshire State legislature.
He most recently ran for and won the Republican primary for State Representative to
the 2008 elections. His statement was recorded on May 8, 2010 in Hampton Virginia
and claims that the brief revealed that extraterrestrials were present in the United
States, they were benevolent, and a meeting could be arranged for Eisenhower.

Another Spiral UFO - seen this time on the east coast of Australia

Looking similar to those seen in Norway, Russia, China, England and in recent
days Canada, although the Canadian video is highly suspected of being a hoax
but even that is not yet proven to be so.
Today at Sunrise along the east coast of Australia, numerous reports were
received and photos taken of this latest 'Spiral UFO'.
Possible explanations have so far varied from Space Junk to a rocket launched an
hour earlier in the United States.

request to the highest legislative body within the European Union for full disclosure of
classified UFO documents by the 27 nation governments that belong to the EU. The
written declaration presented on June 14th was sponsored by Mario Borghezio, leader of
the Italian Northern League party, a controversial politician due to his extreme right-wing
positions. From a political standpoint, the core of the declaration (code # 0057/2010) is to
create a “European commission on UFOs,” but actually the basis of the request is that
the 27 governments who are members of the EU (UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain,
Poland, etc.) have to open their classified archives and release all documents relating to
UFOs. The title of the document submitted by Borghezio is: “Written Declaration pursuant
to Rule 123 of the Rules of Procedure on the declassification of documentation on

residents claim having seen an imp or an alien.

Ex Hertford cop’s ‘close encounter’ after UFO sighting

A FORMER police officer saw a UFO, and what he thought were children that
“disappeared all of a sudden”, while driving from Hertford to Puckeridge.
The sighting was in July last year, but has only emerged within the last few days on a
UFO-watcher’s website.
In his tantalising account the ex-cop, who identified himself only as Nick R, wrote: “I saw
whilst driving along the A10 going home one evening after work north a light which was
not the moon, orange and oval in shape. I drove into my parking space in Puckeridge
and went into my flat. Faffed about for about 10 minutes then went outside for a
cigarette.
“I saw something which I have never told anyone about. My flat was in Cambridge Court
in Puckeridge backed on to fields. I saw in the twilight what I thought were kids messing
about. No, as the light faded around 21.30 the orange globe appeared in the sky. I was
at this time watching something on TV, then went outside for a cigarette again.” Full story
